The ABAP Data Dictionary is not only used to manage global templates (i.e. types) for possible ABAP variables, but is also particularly important for communication with the database on which the SAP system is based.

This course is about getting to know and understand this interface between ABAP and the database in more detail. The core topics are the definition of database tables in ABAP and the optimization of access to this data. Special tables (such as pool or cluster tables) are introduced and a brief look is taken at future database access under S/4 HANA via Core Data Services (CDS). The description of (physical) database views and (logical, i.e. SAP-specific) projection and maintenance views completes this course.

Course Info:

This course includes: 7 units with a total of 25 quizzes and 19 exercises.

The basis for this course are the courses [A01 – ABAP Introduction] and [A02 – ABAP Data Dictionary].

The Quicks take about 6 hours to complete. The processing time of the exercises is of course user-dependent, but we estimate it to be around 4.5 hours.

Lecturer and consultant

Although Alexander Maetzing studied physics, he has been working in the SAP environment for more than 20 years. Originally coming from SAP Basis, he quickly expanded his focus to include programming in SAP systems. The experience from both worlds thus flows into his knowledge transfer.
